For her Spring/Summer 2013 presentation during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Monique Lhuillier was inspired by a recent trip to Turkey where the sea captured her imagination.

Gowns meant for glamorous galas and red carpet affairs were dripping in aquatic themed embellishments, complete with fluidity and movement similar to the sea. Bright blues were a given and the palette extended to include the “life of the sea, birds, brightly colored fish, glowing sunlight on water, and the luminescence of moonlit waves”. Monique Lhuiller even went as far as to add hints of fantasy into her motif with mermaid silhouettes and fish scale prints.

Keeping in theme with the sea inspired concept, Monique Lhuillier chose to have the models wear flowers in their hair, which was crimped to mimic not only the waves of the water, but to look as though the girls had just emerged from the ocean.
