After a fun morning playing tennis, followed by a leisurely swim in the lake, my friend D and I were ready to grab some lunch. Still in our swimming gear, we wanted to eat somewhere casual, preferably with outdoor seating so we could continue to enjoy the nice weather.

I had never been, but D recommended Aunt Chilada’s in Hamden since they have a patio. We sat outside and enjoyed a chicken taco salad for D and a combo platter for me. I especially liked the pulled pork taco – very flavorful and fresh tasting (thankfully, not BBQ-y, just nicely seasoned)! I also really liked the cheesy queso sauce that I got on the side.

The restaurant was pretty empty when we first sat down, but by the time we left it was filling up. At night, the patio often serves as a stage for live music and there are daily food and drink specials offered. I can definitely see coming back here again – the food was tasty, the service was good and the casual atmosphere with outdoor seating is perfect for summer. (There is also an indoor fireplace for when winter rolls around.)
