On Sunday night Daniella Kallmeyer presented her FW12 collection at the Highline Loft in for one of fashion weeks off-site shows. Chelsea seemed to be the perfect setting for such clothing to debut, since they recalled the 60′s and reminded one of the beat generation. For edgy fashionistas out there, these shows are an opportunity to find new and interesting styles from emerging designers. Born in South African, raised in DC, and trained in London: Daniella Kallmeyer knows all about creating a unique flare.

She uses colors that only the most daring ladies would wear. Kallmeyer chose a bold orange for many of the pieces (a color that is sure to rock the fall season). Sure there are some blacks and navy blues but even these pieces offer striking contrast to what can normally be seen on the runway. For instance the grey colored pieces are constructed with neon Rorschach designs. Who would have thought that a instrument of psychology could serve the fashion world?

‘What’s Beautiful Now’ Poll Shows Surprising Results

masl03_american-beauty-census

Beauty is relative and ideas of what is attractive vary throughout the world. Allure magazine recently compiled various views on what physical characteristics are most striking and what makes some self-conscious. They polled 2,000 men and women from across the country to gain insight into current views on body type, age, and hair color. The results are quite surprising.

According to the mag’s study, curves account for what women feel most conflicted about. A whopping 73 percent of women say that a curvier body type is more desirable. Yet, 85 percent of women wish they had smaller hips! But hips aren’t the only body part that women stress about. 35 percent say that their mid-section is what they would like to change most.

Another rough subject is aging. A stunning 93 percent of women feel that aging is difficult to accept as the pressure to stay youthful has more weight than ever before. It’s highly likely that African-American women account for the 7 percent that are content with aging. That’s because they are three times as confident as Caucasian women. More after the jump…

Social Vixen had the chance to find out what inspires Emii and what allows her to keep going.

The music industry is obviously very difficult to break into and navigate. How do you avoid discouragement and not lose faith in yourself
and your talent?

I’ve learned never to allow negative experiences to deter me from continuing to create and perform the music I love for the people I love.  Everyone gets discouraged sometimes.  The most important thing is to not give up.

Do you have advice for artists out there who are fighting to break into the industry?

Continuously improve, adapt, and learn whatever you can about your craft.  Being able to “roll with the punches” has personally helped me immensely. (More after the jump).

Nivea’s ‘Million Moments of Touch’ Campaign

420

On Monday night Nivea launched their ‘Million Moments of Touch’ campaign by hosting a celeb filled party at the Empire State Building. Speakers included Dr. Drew and dazzling power couple Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell. The event offered a plethora of free Nivea products, cocktails, and a view that only the 61st floor of the Manhattan’s tallest skyline could give. The theme of the night was touch. The world is dominated by cell phones and the internet. For this reason interpersonal communication and physical interaction, such as hugging and hand holding has been neglected. Nivea’s new campaign is an attempt to encourage more PDA! It is often the case that work and obligations leave little time for romance. Couples often find it difficult to set aside date nights and other designated portions of time for communication.

It has been reported that over 60% of both men and women have a desire to be touched more by their significant other. That’s why the skin care company is offering free date nights for couples through Facebook. Couples can enter to win a date night sponsered by Nivea! Enter here for your chance to win and don’t forget to take some time away from your cellphone and the internet.

The Craft of Cinematography

As a film lover, I collect and revert back to books on the subject. Recently, I came across ‘Cinematography‘ by Mike Goodridge and Tim Grierson. The Focal Press release features stunning portraits of the world’s most loved films. This includes the work of filmmaking legends Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, and Woody Allen. Yet the true focuses of the intriguing guidebook are the unsung heroes of cinematography. Close to photography, cinematography refers to the construction of photographic images through lighting and creative camera setups.

The book includes in-depth coverage of the fascinating profession as well as compelling interviews. For me personally, the book provided a window into an aspect of film that I was largely unfamiliar with. Recently, I co-wrote and produced my first short film entitled ‘Brother’. It explores the troubled family dynamic of a bitter waitress and her stunningly successful older brother. For this reason, ‘Cinematography’ was quite useful to me. I’m eager to use the techniques described in the book when I shoot my next project at the end of February.

The compilation of on-set stories and expert critiques is sure to be useful for any aspiring film professional as well those who have already established themselves.
