William and Kate’s Vacation on the Island of Mustique

3 Prince William and Kate Middleton's Mustique Vacation Home-800_7123

Soaking up some sun and some amazing views of the Caribbean, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently enjoyed some alone time (comparatively speaking, of course minus all the body guards, staff, and visiting family members) at the Aurora House on the Island of Mustique.

The Aurora House is a gorgeous vacation home that has three master bedroom suites (for visiting friends and family to stay) with a large great room for gathering, an outdoor dining gazebo, and several outdoor terraces with spectacular vistas of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. This luxury rental has plenty of sophisticated touches that are sure to keep it’s guests busy exploring like a sunset viewing deck, unique pools, (a plunge pool & rock dipping pond), and fascinating art and collectibles in each of the rooms.  While this villa invites lounging, there’s also plenty to do in the local area as well. Like most of the Caribbean, local activities include scuba diving, horseback riding, spa excursions, and of course, there are plenty of pristine beaches to explore. (Though my guess is that the royal couple took some time to relax).

Luxury Ship Runs Aground off the Coast of Tuscany

Luxury Ship Runs Aground off the Coast of Tuscany-5

I recently signed up for a cruise and let me tell you, seeing these photos certainly has me second guessing! Over 4,200 people were forced to evacuate after this luxury cruise ship ran aground off the coast of Tuscany, sending water pouring through a 160-foot gash in the hull.

The cruise ship, Costa Concordia, currently leans on its starboard side off the port at Giglio where officials are still looking for passengers, most of which managed to escape. Can you imagine what a cruise ship looks like from the inside in this position? Falling glass, furniture, etc. and then having to scramble up vertical corridors that are no longer walkable and filling with water – incredibly scary!!! See more photos below:

It’s Official: I’m in theTough Mudder Race!

2011-Tough-Mudder-Tri-State-Sunday-Gudkov-0252

Recently, I was (convinced) to sign up for a spot to run in the Tough Mudder race taking place in just under 6 months. I’ll admit I’m definitely going to have to train for this guaranteed-to-be-intense experience. Especially, after falling into a bit of a lazy phase after the holidays!

What is the Tough Mudder race exactly?

All Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. As the leading company in the booming obstacle course industry, Tough Mudder has already challenged half a million inspiring participants worldwide and raised more than $2 million dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project. But Tough Mudder is more than an event, it’s a way of thinking. By running a Tough Mudder challenge, the TM website says I’ll unlock a true sense of accomplishment, have a great time, and discover a camaraderie with fellow participants that’s experienced all too rarely these days. See photos and 3 facts about Tough Mudder after the jump.

Foxwoods Casino and Bellissimo Grande Hotel Review

aboutfox

From the Monday after Christmas until New Year’s Eve, I enjoyed a very relaxing stay at the Bellissimo Grande Hotel, located just about three miles from Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Ct. This was my second time staying at the Bellissimo and both times I’ve had one of the hotel’s Presidential Suites with a King Size bed and Jacuzzi tub. The first time I stayed, my room also had an extra nice stand up shower with a rain shower head and side jets that created a really relaxing shower experience. During my second stay, the room’s shower was much smaller and didn’t have the nice shower features that the first room had. This time, the shower head was pretty basic and the shelves in the shower didn’t seem to hold more than a few of the mini sized bath products provided by the hotel. My own products kept falling off, which was both funny and also kind of annoying. The plus side to this second room, however, was that it had a fireplace. I was really excited that the fireplace was located at the foot of the bed and that the jacuzzi tub was in the main room with a view of the fireplace. Unfortunately, the fireplace didn’t give off any heat – I tried looking on the remote for a heat feature, but it didn’t have one; it was strictly for ambiance. There was also a bidet in this room, which I never used. (Does anyone?) More…

Naomi Campbell’s Favorite Gift? A Private Island!

Naomi Campbell's Eye-Catching Fantasy Home _v2

While Justin Bieber bought his BFF a sports car for Christmas, Naomi Campbell’s Russian billionaire boyfriend takes the cake when it comes to giving luxurious gifts! Not much can beat this eco-friendly house on Cleopatra’s Island in Turkey which he gave as a gift to Naomi Campbell for her 41st birthday! The glass house is shaped like the Egyptian Eye of Horus on a location known as Cleopatra Island in Turkey’s Gulf of Gökova. The domed, 25-bedroom, “horus” eye-shaped home invites natural light to illuminate the home designed by Spanish Architect Luis de Garrido, who specializes in sustainable building. He designed Eco-House Horus to be completely energy, water, and food self-sufficient. As with his other projects, he relied on careful bioclimatic design to solve efficiency challenges such as implementing an innovative, photovoltaic-equipped lighting system.

Turkey’s Sedir Island, aka Cleopatra Island, has been a resort destination in the Gulf of Gökova since ancient Roman times. The sand on Cleopatra Beach is said to be exceptional, and different from other nearby beaches. Local legend has it that Mark Antony imported the sand especially for Cleopatra herself, who would not set foot on any land that wasn’t Egyptian.
