I used to love camping as a kid, but probably haven’t been in over a decade. So, when my 5 year old nephew asked me to camp out for ‘Family Night’ at his summer camp, I was pretty excited!

Thankfully, my aunt is pretty much an expert at camping and had all the necessary supplies for us to use. It felt pretty cool to set up a tent after all these years. Afterward, we cooked a delicious meal on the grill (steak, veggie skewers, and even chili, which we put in a cast iron pot and topped with lots of cheese and fresh jalapenos!) For dessert, we roasted marshmallows over a campfire – by a beautiful lake, while watching the sun set!

Just before going to bed, we hung a variety of colored glow sticks from the ceiling of our tent as a nightlight and listened to all the different critters chirping – such a beautiful sound! In the morning, we walked up to the super slide in our pajamas…not a bad way to start the day, eh? I have to say that this experience made me realize how much fun it is to go camping. I’m not sure if I’ll have any more opportunities to go again this summer, but I’m already (mentally) planning a trip or two for next season!
