This week must have been my lucky week because I got to see Rebecca Minkoff not once, but twice! First for an interview along with her brother/business partner Uri Minkoff at Ford and Stylecaster’s State of Style Summit, and then again for her Fall 2012 runway collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Friday where Rebecca captured the ‘essence of a fearless woman determined to celebrate independence in the moment’.

For her Fall 2012 collection, Rebecca Minkoff re-imagined the protagonist of Ewan McGregor’s 2004 documentary Long Way Round as a girl with a moxie – fearless and unfettered. Minkoff celebrates women empowered by both their drive for independence and their hard-won freedom of self-expression. Bold jewel tones and primary hues were paired with ancestral prints and brocade touches; combinations that echo the courageous choices of those who have carved their own path. Menswear inspired pieces give way to the feminine, opposing details that explore the journey of a woman coming of age, self-confident in the choices she makes both in life and her wardrobe. More after the jump…

Sitting at the Rebecca Minkoff show was inspiring and also full of fun surprises like the opening of the show which had Theophilus London singing “I Stand Alone”, which contains the lyrics “The clothes don’t make the man, it’s the man that makes the clothes” as an intro to the models walking the runway reminiscent of a Victoria’s Secret Fashion show – with less skin showing, of course, and minus a multi-million dollar bra.

Sitting front row were a few celebrities like Kristin Chenoweth, Beverly Johnson, Abigail Breslin, Olivia Palermo, and Sami Gayle who gave the press a run for their money as they smiled for the cameras and politely talked with the press and posed for photos with doting fans.

The 28-piece collection combined brocade, silks, wool, leather, and tweed with interesting origami cuts, geometric patterns, and Space dyed knits. Staying true to her previous collections, Rebecca Minkoff’s Fall 2012 collection spoke for the confident woman who wants both style and comfort that transitions effortlessly from the office to the party, after-party, and her signature time of day – ‘the morning after’! #Rebeccaminkoff

I want to extend a special thank-you to Mercedes-Benz of White Plains for allowing me to attend this show as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Fall 2012.
